Computer History Museum
The world famous Computer History Museum (CHM) can be found here in the heart of Silicon Valley. You are invited to join us on a guided tour of the museum during the Brilliance by the Bay Silicon Valley Regional Gathering on Saturday, November 19.
The museum features a collection of computer memorabilia and artifacts dating from the earliest calculators, to the mainframe computers of the 1950s and 60s with their flashing lights and whirring tape drives, supercomputers and minicomputers of the 70s and 80s, the first IBM PCs and Apple computers, and more on to present wearable computers and self-driving cars. Our guide is Dr. Doris Duncan, a CHM volunteer, gallery interpreter, and Computer Pioneer archivist.
Meet in the lobby of the Santa Clara Hilton at 1:30pm to carpool to the Computer History Museum for our 2:00pm tour. Your host will have a Hollerith Card in his name badge. The tour takes about an hour and there will be a demo of a restored Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) PDP-1 at 3:30pm if you wish to remain longer.
Admission to the museum costs $15/person and the group is limited to 20 people.
Winchester Mystery House Tour – Sunday PM
Join us for a tour of the world-famous 160 room mansion associated with spiritualism, strange building practices, and a wealthy, eccentric widow. We’ll take a 65-minute private tour of the mansion interior, guided by a docent. Then stroll through the gardens, enjoy the museums (firearms and antiques), and peruse the gift shop.
Hosted by SFRM member Mike Borg, former long-time Winchester House employee and expert on the *true* history of Sarah Winchester and her mansion. If you attended his talk at last year’s RG you know that the facts are somewhat different from the story told on the tour. Mike will give you an alternate – but equally interesting – take on the Winchester Rifle heiress and her unique house.
We’ll carpool from the hotel to the Winchester House, which is about a 20-minute drive. Meet in the hotel lobby at 1:15 pm
$30 per adult, $20 per child (ages 6-12)
